Beach Bride Publishes Amanda and Geno’s Wedding
Reliving a wedding when it gets picked up by a wedding-inspiration blog is one of the great thrills of my job, especially when that wedding featured some really amazing people. I met Amanda and Geno at her parent’s home about a year and a half before their destination wedding. They picked such a special place (Puerto Rico) because Amanda used to vacation there frequently as a child and young adult and always dreamed of saying her vows on a white sandy beach. She got her wish and they had the perfect destination wedding.
Shooting destination weddings isn’t for every photographer, though, so if you’re currently planning a wedding, make sure you pick someone who can handle the challenges of capturing a wedding miles from home! Travel arrangements (including moving lots of gear), coordinating backup/second photographers (just in case!), work visas, equipment carnets, taxes, professional liability that extends beyond your usual area of coverage, resort rules about outside photographers, these are just a few of the things photographers have to consider before offering destination coverage. I’ve been fortunate to capture weddings in 13 states and a couple countries, and each one has been so unique and exciting! I’d love to shoot a wedding in each of the 50 states someday, just to see how wedding traditions vary from place to place. Who’s planning a wedding in the southern USA or Alaska?
For my destination couples, I offer 4 days worth of coverage, which while it may more expensive than hiring a local photographer for just your wedding day, is a really good value when you consider what you get. I arrive 2 days before the wedding ceremony and I’d love to explore the local area with you by capturing your rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, family BBQ’s or brunches, etc. Let’s make your wedding album really feature everything that happened during your wedding week! Full day coverage on your wedding itself and a rock the dress session the day after are also included. For couples that live in New England and are traveling for their wedding, hiring their photographer to travel is a nice way to cut down on wedding jitters. We get to know each other pretty well in the time you are engaged (from planning meetings, engagement sessions and more), so you know that the wedding coverage is going to match your style.
I was a destination bride myself (twice! Both to the same groom, though!) Ron and I eloped to Vegas to tie the knot. And then 10 years later, we hosted a larger destination vow renewal in Curacao. I wouldn’t trade either experience for the world! Our ceremonies perfectly suited us – you could say travel is in our blood. I’ve lived in London, and we lived together in Australia. So I know what destination couples are going through when you’re planning from afar. If I can help in any way, I hope you’ll call me. Tell me all about your awesome wedding plans and the challenges (and triumphs) you’re facing. I’d love to be there for you and capture all those precious memories!
